Green building technologies are not just for new construction … are convenient in the house every day. There are literally dozens things that the homeowner average can do to make your home green, the most efficient use of energy to survive, even when time, save money and help the environment by fuel fossil fuels and reduce electricity consumption. And for the homeowner who is about to start a new project or purchase of major appliances, there are several techniques green building easier to do before you start.
Firstly, an energy efficient home starts with a good supply construction start. The seal between the inside and outside an invisible residence is the wall between the space and unconditioned, and that is where most energy loss occurs. In each rather than heating or cooling energy to escape from a house, there is an immediate opportunity to improve the building envelope. Sealing and caulking gaps and cracks in the windows, doors and roof structures, projects can be reduced or eliminated. Expanding the boundaries of spray foam products are ideal for filling wall cavities between interior walls and outside a house. Radiant installed in an attic or exterior walls of the house can reflect radiant heat thermal energy keeping warm air in winter and cool air in summer. Foundation fabric and waterproof membranes in the basement can hold moisture to penetrate the base of the envelope the building. These green building techniques are simple but effective methods of sealing your home against energy loss and can be easily applied by anyone. Other green building techniques are still more easily, quickly paid for themselves in saving bills. Equipment purchased today are all from the Ministry of Energy yellow Energy Guide label with statistics and information on energy consumption. Beneath this label is usually an estimated cost of annual energy of this device. Comparing these figures, the characteristics of each device owners can learn about the models are greener and more energy efficient than others.
Moreover, Environmental Protection Agency created the Energy Star label for appliances and electronics that go beyond the call of duty in terms of energy savings. Guidelines in the efficiency of the EPA meeting strict energy models showing the blue Energy Star logo is usually 10% to 50% more energy efficient than comparable models along type. This green building techniques can save consumers money over the lifetime of the device and power consumption Customers can save fossil fuels and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases released into the environment.
As if that were not enough, the government U.S. offers incentive programs in the form of subsidies and tax breaks to consumers that Energy Star appliances efficient purchasing model. These discounts vary according to region and from state to state, but can be controlled by postcode own website Energy Star green building techniques in the form of choosing the right appliances for the home are evident today.

When we installed the inspiration falls wall in our house earlier this year, we did not realize the impact it would have on our granddaughter. She comes often visit our house and sleep. What we've noticed is that every time you want to read a book or focus on coloring a picture, she always sat near the fountain. It's like if she knows she can relax. This is not a bad perception of a toddler.
Drop, was inspired by the source of the first wall Once we have installed. The size fits well into our room, despite moving in the corridor in the coming months. That's the beauty wall fountains do not need plumbing. All you need is an outlet and some media pendants.
When we were remodeling our house earlier this year, we wanted to introduce some criteria.
Originality
Cleaner environment
Low maintenance
Economic
Relaxing
Colors
Point of contact
We decided that a cascade that would cover most if not all of these things we wanted. We also heard that he found are health benefits associated with water management. Watercourses releases negative ions. Negative ions are odorless, tasteless molecules created in nature with air molecules decomposition of sunlight, radiation and air movement or water.
High concentrations of negative ions found in nature in mountain forests, waterfalls and beaches for people to feel energized and invigorated, which helps relieve stress, alleviate depression and boost of energy.
According to J. Pierce Howard, PhD. – Director of Research at the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, North Carolina and author of the manual for the brain: everyday applications of Mind Research on the Brain – "Negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain, resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness and more mental energy "
Positive ions make us feel tired, depressed and irritable. They are generated by computers, fluorescent lights and air conditioners and our house has it all. We must reverse this trend. We can not always go and sit near a waterfall, but we put in our homes as a cascading wall fountain. This is what they have decided to do.
The impact of this new wall fountain was in the visitors has been overwhelming and has become a topic of conversation repeatedly. The metal frame with water flowing in the central panel was highlighted in an empty wall with the lights angle of it, establishing a dramatic focal point.
Installation is simple. All he needed was to meet brackets to the wall and connected to an electrical outlet. Maintenance is negligible.
From our Inspiration Falls wall fountain is installed, we have observed improved our health and our sleep has improved too. This year onwards, we will install a source of second wall of the house and try to improve our health, even more.

Treating Termite The Natural Way
Many people are very cognizant about the chemicals that we use to control pests which are why there is a new trend toward natural termite treatment to rid our structures of these pesky and damaging insects.
While the use of chemicals is the most effective way to get rid of termites, you can still take measure with natural termite treatment to minimize the damage and keep termites out of your home or building.
Natural termite treatment is the use of termite prevention and control without chemical use. Instead, physical controls are installed during construction such as sand barriers or metal termite shields.
If termite infestation does occur, least toxic methods of treatment are used. What that means is that natural termite treatment is geared toward keeping those pests out instead of killing those who have already gotten in.
What you really need to do is use natural termite treatment to prevent termites from coming into your structure in the first place. That means you won’t use chemicals to keep those pesky termites away, but you will use certain strategies to make sure that they have no food sources that will attract them to your place.
One of the first things you can do in natural termite treatment is to remove any source of chronic moisture since termites are attracted to damp wood for their food source. Moist soil is necessary for termites to survive.
Termites travel back and forth between soil and food sources because they must obtain moisture from the soil. In addition, capillary action and water vapor buildup can result in excessive dampness which can actually wick through a concrete slab or masonry foundation to the wood framing above it, thus attracting termites.
In above-ground foundations, moisture barrier films such as 6 mil polyethylene can be used to cover the area under the structure. This will help decrease moisture buildup in sub-flooring.
Foundation wall vents should be placed to provide cross ventilation for homes with crawl spaces. If re-grading or remodeling covers vents, additional vents may be needed. Some experts recommend the use of moisture barriers under slab foundations as well in natural termite treatment programs.
Areas subject to moisture build-up, such as bathrooms, should be given special attention since they are likely to be attack areas. Areas under tubs and drains leading to the exterior (such as air conditioner drains) should be considered vulnerable spots.
This is a very important part of natural termite treatment since elimination of moisture will take away the termite’s food source and they won’t come for a visit!
Natural termite treatment is a great way to keep our environment healthy and ecologically sound. We should do what we can to make sure that our Earth survives despite our use of chemicals – and natural termite treatment is a great place to start!
How long does my landlord need to comply with requests? (Tennessee)?
I moved into an apartment in Nashville in February. On move in, our walk through showed a lot of issues. We wrote those issues on the walk through paper and also took pictures/video of all of the problems. To date, only 2 of the 8 issues have been fixed. Recently, we have called the maintenance into our apartment 3 times to fix our air conditioner. Last night, the pipe came loose and water got everywhere. It also destroyed everything in the closet and our carpet near the door, around the closet and in the closet now needs cleaned.
I am getting a little aggravated with all of this. Granted, they did replace our dishwasher. Only because they fixed it twice and it would no longer work after fixing it. We got a dishwasher from a renovated unit. Can my landlord keep halfway fixing problems or refuse to fix at all? Is there any law stating she has a certain time frame in which to fix the issues?
Your lease specifically spells out the landlord’s obligations about repairs. Read the lease.
Also, from http://articles.directorym.com/Tenants_Rights_to_Privacy_and_Repairs_Tennessee-r935150-Tennessee.html :
What are a landlord’s maintenance responsibilities? Do tenants have responsibilities?
Under most state and local laws, landlords must offer and maintain housing that satisfies basic habitability requirements, such as adequate weatherproofing, available heat, water, and electricity, and clean, sanitary, and structurally safe premises.
Local building or housing codes typically set specific standards, such as the minimum requirements for light, ventilation, and electrical wiring. Many cities require the installation of smoke detectors in residential units and specify security measures involving locks and keys. Your local building or housing authority and health or fire department, can provide information on local housing codes and penalties for violations.
Tenants have the responsibility to keep their own living quarters clean and sanitary. If you do not, you can’t go to the landlord and request repairs that are due to your negligence, such as infestations of pests such as ants. In that case, the landlord could have the work done and send the repair bill to you.
When the landlord is responsible for making certain repairs, the landlord can usually delegate the repair tasks to the tenant in exchange for a reduction in rent (if the tenant agrees). If the tenant fails to do the job well, however, the landlord is not excused from his responsibility to maintain the property in a habitable condition.
If a landlord doesn’t make required repairs, what are the consequences?
If a tenant requests repairs and the landlord or property manager doesn’t meet the habitability requirements, a tenant usually has several options, depending on the state. These options include:
•making the necessary repairs and deducting the costs from the next month’s rent
•withholding the entire rent until the problem is fixed
•paying less rent while the rental remains substandard
•calling the local building inspector, who can usually order the landlord to make repairs, or
•moving out without responsibility for future rent, even in the middle of a lease.
A tenant can also sue the landlord for a partial refund of past rent, and in some circumstances can sue for the discomfort, annoyance, and emotional distress caused by the substandard conditions.
Your best bet is to handle repairs as soon as possible (or delegate the repairs to the tenant in exchange for decreased rent). Take care of major problems, such as a plumbing or heating problem, within 24 hours. For minor problems, respond in 48 hours. Always keep tenants informed as to when and how the repairs will be made, and the reasons for any delays.
When you are looking into storage options, you may be wondering if you need climate controlled self storage. You will need to carefully think about several different considerations in order to make this decision. First, you will need to think about what you will be storing. Second, you will need to think about the types of containers you will be storing your items within. Third, you will need to think about the fragility of either the items you are storing or the storage containers themselves. Fourth, you will need to think about the dollar value of the items being stored. Finally, you will be able to determine if a climate controlled self storage unit is most appropriate to use.
First, consider what you are going to store. The actual items you store should dictate how they are stored. For instance, the needs of a couch that you will be storing will be different from the needs of a box of paperwork or magazines. Likewise, a box of holiday decorations will have different storage needs than a bicycle or other children’s toys. If you will be storing a variety of different items in your storage unit, give thought to all of those items. This can also give you an opportunity to store similar items in the same container, instead of mixing and matching items to be stored together. Keep your fragile items together so they can be more easily protected. Likewise, keep your more sturdy items together as well.
Second, what types of containers will you be using? If you will be using cardboard boxes, with or without lids, you will need to realize that they are much more susceptible to the effects of heat and cold than metal or plastic containers are. If you are using plastic containers, carefully examine their actual make up. Newer, sturdier plastic containers are a safer barrier against climate changes than older and more brittle plastic containers. Think carefully about storing your items in metal containers. Some metal containers are specially built to help shield their contents from the effects of heat and cold. On the flip side, however, consider that some metal containers, especially those that are older, actually conduct heat and cold and so can be very harmful to what is stored inside.
Third, think about how fragile the items are that you are going to stir. You should also think about how fragile the storage containers are. If you will be storing antique lace doilies, they will not stand up as well to humid or hot locations as may studier items such as metal cookware. If you have many items stored in the same bin, go with the lowest common denominator and use the most fragile item to help make your determination for the entire bin. Think about your storage containers, as well. If you have a lot of older boxes and crates, they may break down faster in less than ideal conditions than would newer containers made of sturdier materials.
Fourth, keep in mind the almighty dollar. A rule of thumb is that the more valuable the item, the more likely it will need climate control. Don’t take a risk with items of value. Instead, always err on the side of caution. For instance, if you have a really valuable baseball card collection, get it out of your hot and humid attic and always store it in an area that is kept at a constant temperature. If you will be storing furniture like beds or couches, where the cushions or mattresses may be affected by temperature, you will definitely want to choose a climate controlled self storage unit.
Finally, if you still have not come to a decision about whether or not you need a climate controlled self storage unit, look at all of your previous considerations as a whole picture instead of individual pieces. Generally, you will want to make your decision based upon what will best benefit the items that you will store.
Do not let the cost of climate controlled self storage be one of your determining factors. Climate controlled self storage units are reasonably priced, and the cost associated is more than justified by the protection that they can offer to your most prized or valuable possessions. Instead think about the option that will best benefit your needs and let that be your final determining factor. In the end, if you are unable to make a decision based on this criteria, try out a climate controlled self storage unit for a month or two to see how valuable it can be. After your trial run, you can determine whether future use will best suit your needs!
